Josep Tabernero

Josep Tabernero, Head of the Medical Oncology Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Professor of Medicine at the Universitat de Vic and Director of the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology in Spain. Moreover, Josep Tabernero is the Former President of the European Society for Medical Oncology and member of the Cancer Mission Assembly linked to the European Commission – Cancer Mission Board of the next EU research and innovation program, Horizon Europe.

Josep Tabernero has designed several investigator-initiated clinical trials aimed at answering relevant questions in CRC research. Josep Tabernero has participated in and contributed to the design of several clinical trials. Many developed in the context of national and international cooperative groups, and some were sponsored directly by pharmaceutical companies. The research work of Josep Tabernero’s group, the Gastrointestinal and Endocrine Tumours Group, at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology, is focused towards the development of molecularly targeted therapies and the identification of molecular biomarkers of response & resistance. It is performed by clinical and translational researchers working in various thematic areas such as sophisticated preclinical models, liquid biopsies & microbiomes.
