The COVID-19 pandemic: How do we produce firm evidence for the treatment of a novel disease?

Randomized clinical trials for medications assumed to be effective for the treatment of COVID-19 are highly important. Ideally, researchers should collaborate nationally and internationally on these randomized clinical trials to ensure large, high-quality studies with a low risk of bias. The trials should have standard outcomes, which allow pooling of data and performance of meta-analyses.
