Charalampos Tzoulis

Charalampos Tzoulis, MD, PhD, is Professor of Neurology and Neurogenetics at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, Norway. He is Director of the Neuro-SysMed National Center of Excellence for Clinical Neurological Research and Director of ICoN: the Innovation Center for Neuroresilience, the KG Jebsen Center for Parkinson’s disease, and the Mohn Center for Neuroprotection. He also leads the DECODE-PD Research Group and directs several major research programs focused on treatment and prevention of Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. An internationally recognized expert in movement disorders and neurodegeneration, his work has advanced understanding of mitochondrial dysfunction, bioenergetics, and selective cellular vulnerability in Parkinson’s disease and related α-synucleinopathies. He currently leads a broad translational and clinical research portfolio with a strong focus on biomarker-driven studies and innovative trial design, including the SLEIPNIR and HYDRA multi-arm platform trials in Parkinson’s disease, as well as NOR-RBD, a national initiative aimed at prevention in prodromal synucleinopathies.
