Odd Erik Johansen
Odd Erik Johansen, took his MD at the University of Tromsö, Norway in 1999, and his medical clinical PhD in cardiovascular diabetology at the University of Oslo, Norway, in 2007. He specialized in internal medicine, cardiology and endocrinology before joining the pharmaceutical industry, where he has gained expertise in clinical development (early and late), and has served as the company medical lead for several landmark trials in type 2 diabetes, including EMPA-REG OUTCOME and CAROLINA. He has been mentoring medical PhD candidates to successful PhD degrees, and serves as an expert panel member of “Organs and organ systems”, on topics such as gastro-, endo-, hepatology and metabolism for the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) for their 3-years doctoral (PhD) fellowships in strategic basic research program.
He has published > 100 peer-reviewed papers including in NEJM, JAMA, Circulation, Eur Heart J, and Diabetes Care. Presently he is the global clinical development lead at Nestlé Health Science, focusing on metabolic clinical challenges, including heart failure, chronic kidney disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, and alzheimer/cognitive impairment.
