Individuals With Radically Excised Thin Melanomas May Have Unnecessary Treatment During Wide Local Excision

This study presented at EADV 2024 shows that thin melanomas (≤1 mm) have a low risk of metastases (0.2%) and residual melanoma after diagnostic excision. This raises questions about the necessity of wide local excision in such cases, as it may lead to unnecessary treatment. Ebba Wennberg proposes in this MEDtalk a more personalized approach focusing on histopathological margins to reduce unnecessary surgeries and costs.
